The Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) was established in October 2017 under the Sindh Mass Transit Authority Act, 2014, under the administrative control of the Government of Sindh, Transport and Mass Transit Department (T&MTD). It has a province-wide remit and is responsible for the management and delivery of the Transport Master Plan 2030, developed by the Government of Sindh, with the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Sindh Mass Transit Authority SMTA is implementing multiple projects under the ‘Karachi Transportation Improvement Project” to address the transportation needs of the ever-sprawling urban hubs in Sindh Province, especially Karachi. After the successful operation of Green Line BRT, Govt. of Sindh funded 3.8 KM long Abdul Sattar Edhi BRT Line (Orange Line) is also ready to be integrated with GL. The Sindh Intra-District Peoples Bus Service Project” is an integrated bus operations model as a solution to cater to the public transport demand in various cities in the province of Sindh.
